Academic Integrity
I honestly do not think that a lot of cheating goes on at Georgetown, at least from what I have noticed so far as a first-year student. I am not naive enough to think that there is absolutely no cheating on campus, but I really believe that most students here do not cheat. This is something actually quite new to me because in high school I knew many students and friends who cheated, and many were caught too. Some kids would spend more time and energy into trying to cheat than to actually study for exams or write papers in high school. I did not see what the point of that was. Personally, I believe students cheat less in college for numerous reasons. The first being all or at least most of us are here to seriously learn. High school is not an option, everyone must attend, but college is optional and those who want to further their education go. I know that I am in college to learn more about the financial and business world and prepare myself for a career in finance. The second reason is because cheating in college is an extremely serious offense and often times ends with expulsion. Georgetown is quite expensive and I know my parents would probably disown me if I wasted their money by being thrown out of college for cheating. Lastly, I believe most students do not cheat because they care about learning here more than they do about the grade. Sure, having a good GPA can open many doors for you in terms of jobs, but I certainly would rather struggle in a class and learn a ton about a subject, than to cheat on every test and learn nothing.
