I felt as though Kamar’s reflection on Memphis spoke to me the most and was quite powerful. He was an incredible public speaker and his talk was well thought out and put together. Kamar spoke about how growing up in Memphis has shaped his life. It was clear that he was proud to be from his city. He talked about how the community, culture, and music of Memphis had such a strong impact on his life. Memphis has somewhat of a bad reputation across the country for being one of the poorest if not the poorest city in America. Kamar was able to take what he learned from growing up in Memphis and incorporate it into his life to become a well- rounded individual. He talked about going to many different types schools throughout his childhood. While many might think changing schools multiple times could be a hindrance to one’s social life, Kamar learned to thrive in his situation. He said he learned how to adapt and socialize with all types of people he interacted with, which is certainly an important skill to have in life.
